Upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and assisted transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge. The aptly named Arusha Coffee Lodge lies hidden amongst the sprawling grounds of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, set below the rugged peaks of Mt Meru. Guests can unwind in one of the lodge’s exclusive Plantation Suites, which each boast a romantic four-poster bed draped in Egyptian cotton linen, a split-level sitting area, ensuite bathroom, an open fireplace, a personal bar and a private veranda that looks out onto rows and rows of berry-laden coffee bushes.
After a delicious breakfast, you will be assisted transfer to Tarangire National Park. Upon arrival you will be assisted check in at Mbali Mbali Tarangire River Camp. During the dry season (June to September) thousands of animals including elephant, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, and the rarely seen oryx migrate from the dry Maasai steppe to the Tarangire River in search of water. Spend the day enjoying game drives in the area, with picnic lunch included.
Enjoy a classic safari at Mbali Mbali Tarangire River Camp. This comfortable tented camp is set in a 25,000 hectare concession overlooking the Tarangire River and is only 3.5 kilometres from the main entrance to Tarangire National Park. The camp has 20 rooms, including five family units and all are equipped with private verandas and en suite bathrooms. Each safari tent has been built on an elevated wooden platform allowing for wildlife viewing right from your room. There is also a separate lounge and dining area with excellent views over the riverbank below.
This morning depart Tarangire and head for the highlands of Karatu, stopping on the way to view Manyara and the escarpment below. Presided over by the towering Ol Deani Volcano, the small, colourful town of Karatu offers a variety of activities including a the bustling marketplace, and is a chance to enjoy an authentic rural Tanzania experience. Enjoy a tour of the Ngorongoro Crater this afternoon. The volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro offers spectacular game viewing in its crater. We can almost guarantee you four of the Big Five will show up, as well as a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Varied terrains and dramatic landscapes consisting of forest, grasslands and both freshwater and soda lakes make the Ngorongoro Crater a true marvel of creation. Overnight either at the crater’s rim or in Karatu.
Check in at the luxurious Kitela Lodge - This small, intimate lodge and spa is set above a valley with glorious views making Kitela an ideal, away-from-the-crowds base from which to explore the region. Game drives into the Crater are easy to arrange, and the lodge combines well with other accommodation in the Serengeti as well as Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks. The main building serves as a hub for luxurious cottages nestled in a landscaped tropical garden. Relax in the blissful and scenic pool area by day and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the bar in the evenings. From the comfort of your luxury cottage, take time out to immerse yourself in the indulgence of the African Spa or take guided walks through the vegetable gardens, coffee plantations and local Maasai villages.
Continue your journey to into the heart of the Serengeti today. This renowned National Park is unequalled for its beauty and home to more than three million large mammals spread over the vast endless plains. It is here, at certain times of the year, that we may encounter the breathtaking spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, where one and a quarter million wildebeest trek in columns of up to 40 km long in search of grazing, drawing with them their predators and numerous other species of game.
