Days 4-5: Tsavo West National Park
Stay: Finch Hattons luxury Camp
After breakfast you will head out to Tsavo West National Park, located in the Coast province in south-east Kenya. The landscape of Tsavo West is spectacularly varied, with semi-arid plains, open grasslands, dense woodlands, rocky outcrops and lava flows. The soil is rich and red in colour and this creates the illusion of magnificent red elephants – which are actually covered in dust from the soil. The park is also home to wildlife including rhino, buffalo, leopard, lion, waterbuck, lesser kudu, giraffe and gerenuk. Check in at the luxurious FInch Hattons Safari Camp.
Affectionately named after Denys Finch Hattons, one of Kenya’s great adventurers, Finch Hattons camp offers guests a unique opportunity to relive the golden era of the safari. Spacious tents boasting panoramic vistas of the surrounding springs and forest include ensuite bathrooms, personal bars and private verandas, complete with comfy chairs and daybeds. Guest areas include an elegantly appointed bar, restaurant, boutique store, a relaxing sitting room and an extensive library of books and classic music. Scrumptious breakfasts and lunches are served al fresco on the open-air terrace, whilst lavish six-course dinners are savoured in the elegant dining room. Those in need of a cooling respite from the midday heat can head to the inviting swimming pool for a refreshing dip. Adventures include exciting game drives and guided nature walks through the wildlife-rich Amboseli National Park.
